Mount Nebo

"I will stand where Moses stood looking on the Promised Land
leaking with remnants of desire.

...

I will stand in Moses’s ghostprints.
The red sand swept away.
To know the reservoir where my bit of feeling originated.
Or, at least, drink from a tributary spilling from the source."

Taking a picture with "Flat Stanley" (for Nathan Sasser) next to a turkey on Mt. Nebo.  The turkey was making really aggressive sounds!  "Katie, hurry, take the picture, hurry."

Toward the top.

Some salvaged mosaics.

An artistic cross sculpture.

The Promised Land.  Once green and lush, the land of milk and honey.  Now dusty desert.

I took this short film of my view of the promised land mostly because the sounds were amazing and I wanted to capture them.  Like many places in Jordan, it was a vast and echoing space.  I could hear the jingling bells of donkeys, dogs barking, sheep bahhing way down in the wadis.  It was incredibly peaceful and relaxing with only the occasional truck engine as interruption.
